One of Rydex’s most rewarding investments is its drive to give back to the community. Giving is so important that we pledge to support our community as part of our corporate shared values. At Rydex, we are proud to support the community in which we live and work and the various civic organizations whose efforts and dedication strengthen our communities.
Rydex G.I.F.T.S. Committee
The name says it all. The Rydex Giving Is Fun To Support (G.I.F.T.S) committee is comprised of Rydex associates who generously volunteer their time and energy to various civic organizations and causes within the community. The Rydex G.I.F.T.S committee works with a host of community-based organizations, including the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross and the Junior Achievement program. The committee focuses on community development, education and human services.
Every year, the Rydex G.I.F.T.S committee hosts signature events benefiting the community:
Angel Tree Christmas: A very special and popular event at Rydex, the annual Rydex Angel Tree Christmas builds off of the universally recognized holiday giving tree concept. In conjunction with the holiday season, Rydexers and their family members are invited to purchase gifts for local children in need. Angel Tree gifts benefit the local chapter of the Salvation Army.
Junior Achievement Teaching Program: In conjunction with the national non profit organization, Rydex Junior Achievement volunteers teach fundamental business skills to local school children—showing them the importance of staying in school and later joining the workforce.
Elementary School Mentor Program: Associates visit a local elementary school and spend one-on-one time with a child.
Holiday Raffle for the Children’s Inn: Each holiday season, Rydex hosts a raffle benefiting the families of the Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health—a private, non profit family-centered residence for pediatric outpatients at NIH and for their families. The money generated during the raffle helps the Inn provide a warm and safe home for the 1,000 children and their families that stay each year.
Rydex hosts various internal events to benefit the local community and civic organizations including:
Clothing Drive for Stepping Stones and Goodwill Clothing: Rydex associates sponsors a company-wide spring clothing drive. Donations benefit Stepping Stones, a local non profit shelter that assists homeless men, women and children in regaining their independence by offering food and shelter services.
Rydex School Supply Drive: Rydex joins forces with other local firms to provide school supplies to local children in need.
Red Cross Blood Drive: In conjunction with the American Red Cross, Rydex hosts an on site blood drive—open to associates, their family members and members of the community.
Rydex associates also participate in numerous community-sponsored events including:
AIDS Walk Washington: This 5K walk is sponsored by and benefits the Whitman-Walker Clinic—a non profit community-based health organization serving the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region.
The Call to Protect Campaign: Sponsored by the Wireless Foundation, this annual campaign collects wireless telephones to assist survivors of domestic violence.
Komen Race for the Cure™: This annual event raises funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, as well as celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.
Light the Night Walk–Sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society: This nationwide evening walk helps raise awareness and funding for blood cancers.
The year 2005 was marked with tragic natural disasters. In response to these tragedies, the Rydex G.I.F.T.S. Committee hosted donation drives to benefit the American Red Cross and the victims of the tsunami in South Asia and Hurricane Katrina.
